 Wireless LAN

One of the largest costs in moving to a new office is to have the office cabled for data connections. Even if the office is already cabled, the data points are usually in the wrong place for the intended layout, or too few in number to accommodate the number of devices that are required.

A better option, especially for remote workers, is to implement a secure wireless network to complement or replace the use of wired links. With a wireless network, remote users can sit anywhere in the office, connect to the network (often automatically) with their credentials and start work. They don’t need to find cables and data points (and therefore don’t go around unplugging things that they should not!). With a wireless LAN (Local Area Network) data is sent between the connected PCs and laptops via a secured connection. In many ways, this is similar to the VPN technology described in the VPN section of this site. The use of this encryption prevents access for unauthorised personnel and the interception of company data whilst it is being transmitted.

The main issue with Wireless LANs is one of security. By default, many products install with inadequate or non existent security settings. This then allows unauthenticated access to the network which is certainly to be avoided.

ION Systems consultants are experts in wireless LAN implementations (In fact some of them used to work for one of the companies that developed the technology). As a result of this knowledge, they can configure your wireless LAN with a scalable security model up to and surpassing those used by government agencies.

If this is of interest to you, feel free to contact sales team using one of the methods listed on the contacts page. As usual, any initial consultation is available free of charge.
